Why is Spring Cleaning Important?
Spring cleaning is a tradition that has been around for centuries, and it is still an important practice today.
Nowadays modern home heating systems keep our windows closed during the winter months to prevent waste. Our homes accumulate dust and other allergens over time which can lead to health problems.
By thoroughly deep cleaning and dusting our homes in spring, indoor air quality is improved.
Spring cleaning not only has a positive impact on our physical health but also on our mental well-being. A cluttered living space can cause stress and overwhelm.
By cleaning, decluttering, and organizing our living spaces, our homes look brighter and more inviting. It also helps improve our mood, reduce stress, and increase focus and productivity.
Spring cleaning is not just about seasonal cleaning and tidying up, it’s also about creating a space that allows us to live life with more ease and comfort.
7 Ways to Make Spring Cleaning Easier
Seasonal deep cleaning requires our time and energy, it seems not an enjoyable thing to do for most people. Finding ways to make spring cleaning fun and easier can definitely help motivate us to clean and save us a lot of time and effort. Here are the spring cleaning tips and ideas that will help clean your house faster and easier.
1// Create your own spring cleaning schedule.
Spring is the perfect time for a fresh start by giving your home a thorough deep clean. Some of you may want to spring clean your home in one weekend, and some others would like to split the spring cleaning into a month and tackle one area of the house each day.
Everyone’s lifestyle is different, so creating a spring cleaning checklist tailored to your needs is important.
A giant cleaning project can feel so overwhelming and put you off. Making your own spring cleaning list by breaking down the big chores into smaller manageable tasks room-by-room can help you stay organized and on track.
This Ultimate Room-by-Room Spring Cleaning Checklist will help you get started and check off as you go.
In this way, with an organized cleaning checklist and a plan of action, you will also be able to delegate the chores to other family members if needed. This makes spring cleaning a lot easier, quick, and more efficient.
2// Declutter before you start cleaning.
Now that you have your spring cleaning checklist printable on hand, hold on. Before you get started to clean, declutter all the flat surfaces first.
Pick up and put away all the random stuff that is on the floors, dining table, and all surfaces.
Go through each room of the house and get rid of anything you don’t need or use anymore. When the surfaces are cleared, cleaning will become easier and more efficient.
Especially if you call for a home cleaning service, you want them to focus on cleaning your home, not wasting time moving things around to clean.
Got too much stuff? Here are the 100 things to get rid of with no regret!
3// Have all the cleaning essentials ready before you start.
Before you start, make sure you have all the cleaning supplies ready and in good condition to use.
Check to see if you have to purchase extra cleaning products. Get your cleaning tools repaired or buy new ones if needed.
Put all your cleaning supplies and materials in a cleaning caddy with different compartments to keep them organized.
Carrying the caddy from room to room while you clean helps to reduce the time wasted on going back and forth to get items from different places. With an organized cleaning caddy, the cleaning will become much easier and faster.
4// Use the right cleaning tools and supplies.
Having the right cleaning tools and products can help to cut down the cleaning time and make the cleaning process efficient.
For example, an extendable duster can help you dust the out-of-reach area in a minute. I really like using Swiffer 360 to dust all the high and hard-to-reach areas. I can easily clean the cobwebs in ceiling corners, ceiling fans, tall bookshelves, top of window sills, and top of kitchen cabinets, etc. without using a ladder.
I also use it to dust blinds, baseboards, and tight spaces between furniture and baseboards. This cleaning tool is versatile for cleaning various spaces around the house and it is lightweight.
I used to have shoulder problems, so house cleaning is not easy for me. This extendable duster can effectively trap and lock in dust and dirt from every direction which makes cleaning a lot easier and faster, and less stressful.
Using appropriate cleaning gadgets can help you get the job done efficiently. Consider purchasing a robot vacuum if you don’t have one.
There are many budget robot vacuums in the market you can choose from to help you clean your home with minimal effort. You will thank yourself later.
5// Clean your house in the correct order.
Seasonal cleaning is an essential task that requires time and effort. To make the cleaning process more easier and efficient, it is important to follow the right cleaning order.
For example, always clean your home from top to bottom. This means start cleaning from the highest point in a room and working your way down. In this way, all the dirt and dust that falls off during cleaning will be taken care of at the end. You only need to clean each area once and don’t have to repeat cleaning the same area again. This cleaning approach saves you time and energy.
Another cleaning habit is cleaning from left to right or right to left around the room instead of jumping here and there.
Cleaning consistently in one direction not only helps to save me time for backtracking but also not to miss any spots that need to be cleaned. This makes the cleaning process faster, more effective, and more efficient.
When we talk about cleaning, we always aim at seeing immediate results, so using an effective cleaning method is the way to go.
For example, using an “S” pattern to wipe a surface is way more effective than in a circular motion. When you wipe in circles, the dirt and dust never be picked up but just move around in the same place. But if you wipe in the “S” pattern, you start from one corner of the surface and move in an S shape down to another corner so that all dirt and dust can be picked up thoroughly.
6// Use the cleaning products the right way.
When you buy a new cleaning product, always read the label and follow the instruction for safe and effective use.
Wear gloves and goggles if necessary and test them out on a small, inconspicuous area first to prevent damage or a big mess.
Though I like using my homemade DIY cleaners, I still keep using some store-bought products as well. Use the cleaning products that work for you.
It’s also important to let cleaning products sit for a certain period of time before wiping them off for effective results. For example, when I use the toilet bowl cleaner, I would let the cleaner sit for a couple of minutes. While it’s doing its job, I go wipe down the tank, toilet seat and lid, toilet handle, and the exterior of the toilet so no time is wasted.
Finally, I come back to brush the bowl. Any tough stains and marks can be removed easily and I don’t need to waste time scrubbing.
Surfaces should be cleaned before disinfection. When you use disinfectant wipes or spray, be sure to give enough time for the product to sit and wet to effectively kill gems.
If you have pets at home, be sure to use pet-safe cleaning products to protect your furry friends too!
Using cleaning products properly can make cleaning much easier, faster, and more effective.
7// Get motivated to love cleaning your home.
Finding the motivation to clean is the hardest part to get started. Let’s face it, to most of us, spring cleaning is not a pleasant task. It can feel like a huge undertaking and cost us a lot of time.
No motivation to clean or procrastinate happens. Finding the time and energy to spring clean our homes can be challenging. That’s why we love cleaning shortcuts, tips, and hacks to make spring cleaning easier.
I would also make cleaning an expected and exciting thing to do, a fun and enjoyable part of my routine. I like to motivate myself by listening to podcasts or audiobooks while cleaning.
You may also want to turn on your favorite music playlist or some upbeat music to put you in a better mood, keep your energy up and make the cleaning process more enjoyable.
Don’t forget to time yourself and break down the cleaning chores into small manageable tasks to make the huge cleaning easier. A spring cleaning checklist can help you cross off as you go.
Spreading out the cleaning chores throughout the month makes the spring cleaning easier and less overwhelming.
