how to reduce stress

Let’s face it, it is impossible to avoid all stress. Stress is just an inevitable part of our life. It may come from our work, relationship or finance. The good thing is there are some techniques for us to practice to reduce the stress levels.

Since constant stress can affect your mood and physical health, learning how to manage stress is essential for all of us. Today, I’m going to share some of my tips to reduce stress. They are the effective ways for me to relieve stress.

7 Simple and Effective Ways to Reduce Stress

1. Practice Deep Breathing

Breathing exercises help to improve sleep, reduce stress and ease anxiety. If you’re feeling angry or stressed out, the first thing which can help to calm you down is taking deep breaths.

I like to do deep breathing exercises when I feel tense or anxious. It is an inexpensive, effective and easy way to relax, and it can be done anywhere.

2. Keep a Journal

Journaling is an outlet for emotional release which is good for mental health. If you haven’t started journaling, I’m encouraging you to spend 5 minutes every day starting this habit. Writing down your thoughts and expressing yourself on paper helps to gain perspective and inner peace.

Focusing on gratitude helps to boost feelings of satisfaction and happiness. It also helps to let go of worries and understand yourself better.

Having a nutritious balanced diet is important to help relieve stress. Avoid packaged and processed food as they usually contain added sugar which will affect your blood sugar levels in your body. This can cause fatigue and make you more anxious. You may also aim to consume less alcohol and caffeine as well.

5. Be Creative

Creative activities like making art, doodling or playing musical instruments help to reduce your stress levels. They are an effective strategy to manage stress.

When you work on your art pieces, you focus your mind on your work which can distract you from stressful thoughts and feelings, at least for a moment. You just don’t have time for that because you’re focused on the process of creativity.

6. Plenty of Sleep

Having an adequate and good night’s sleep is important for you to improve concentration and manage stress.

I don’t know about you, I need to sleep at least 7 hours each night. Getting less than 6 hours of sleep can make me feel tired, grumpy, and can’t be focused.

When you have enough sleep and wake rested, you’ll have the energy to tackle the tasks and reduce the impact of stress.

7. Be Positive. More Laughter

Laughter relieves stress and relaxes the whole body. Reach out to supportive friends. Hang out with friends who make you laugh. Watch a funny show or play with your kids. All these help to lighten your burdens, improve your mood and ease tension.
